Enclosure problems are usually decided before the first part is cut. The six criteria below separate a supplier who simply builds your drawing from one who improves it — and they are the same criteria we hold ourselves to on every project.

Engineering input before the first cut

A large share of unit cost is locked in at the drawing stage, before any material is ordered. A supplier who only prices finished drawings cannot change that. Look for one who checks bend radii, hole-to-bend distances and weld access before quoting — our free CAD design & DFM review exists for exactly this reason.

Tolerance matched to function, not habit

Over-tolerancing is a quiet budget leak. Holding ±0.1 mm on every feature costs far more than holding it on the five that actually mate, seal or carry current. Mark the critical dimensions and let the rest run to standard shop tolerance — you will usually see the difference in the quote.

Material chosen for the real environment

Failures usually trace back to a condition nobody designed for: salt air, UV exposure, washdown chemicals, or galvanic contact between dissimilar metals. Tell your fabricator where the enclosure will live and what it will be mounted against, then let the material follow.

ISO 9001 is the floor, not the finish line. Ask what gets measured, at which stage, and whether a dimensional report ships with the first article. A supplier who answers all three without checking with someone else is a different kind of partner.

Proof of protection, not a rating on paper

IP54–IP66 is achievable on a fabricated enclosure, but the rating lives or dies on gasket compression, cable gland selection, door stiffness and seam design. Ask how the rating is verified, not whether it is claimed. Our NEMA vs IP ratings guide explains what each code does and does not cover.

Materials, Thickness & Finishing Options

We routinely process sheet from 0.5 mm to 6.0 mm. Thickness is only one input, though — span, load, corrosion exposure and finishing method all pull the decision in different directions. The table below is a starting point; our sheet metal material selection guide covers the trade-offs in depth.

One piece. Laser cutting and CNC bending need no mold, so a single prototype is economical — and the same tool-free process is what lets us scale to production volumes without a tooling step in between.

What tolerance can you hold?能做到什么公差？
±0.1 mm on laser-cut profiles and CNC-bent features is our standard working capability. Anything tighter, or any dimension that will simply be expensive to hold, gets flagged before we quote rather than discovered halfway through production.

How long does a custom enclosure take?定制外壳需要多久？
Standard parts ship in 7–15 days and custom builds run 20–30 days, depending on complexity, finish and quantity. Prototypes move faster because there is no tooling to make — which is also why design changes late in a project cost far less than they would with hard tooling.
